Your business isn’t just about marketing and income and strategy. It connects you with others. It serves the impact you want to have, your unique positive contribution to the world. In order to have that impact, you’ve got to bring your whole self to whatever you’re doing.
Your business isn’t just about marketing and income and strategy. It serves a higher purpose. It connects you with others. It serves the impact you want to have, your unique positive contribution to the world.
In order to have that impact, you’ve got to bring your whole self to whatever you’re doing.
When I’m working with my clients, we talk a lot about authenticity in marketing. Authenticity includes bringing your thinking brain to the process, to your strategy. Authenticity includes bringing your feeling self to your marketing: laughter and emotion, your passion for what you do.
Authenticity also includes another realm. Bringing your authentic self into your marketing and your business includes bringing your spiritual self, your connection to the Divine.
Being connected to your spiritual self means you can market not out of desperation, but out of service. You can use your intuition, your inner guidance, blended with your knowledge and emotion to serve that higher purpose.
There’s an African word, Ubuntu, that means “I am because of you”. I once had a meeting in an African hut with that word painted on the outside. The hut sits in a village that South African leader Nelson Mandela often visited. Every morning, he walked through the village and reached out to everyone he met, connecting with them, just as you are connecting with the people you meet with your marketing, with your business.
In Mandela’s honor, an art installation on his walking path, named Freedom’s Way, was created, black and burnished metal pillars, 4 feet high at the side of the path, with words like Vision, Freedom, Courage, Resilience, Empathy, Trust, and Unity. Ubuntu.
Ubuntu speaks to our interconnectedness. “I am because of you” - Your spiritual self knows that. It knows that we are all connected with each other. So whatever you bring into the world that contributes in a positive way affects all of us.
One way you can bring your spiritual self directly into your marketing is with awareness of our interconnectedness, that we all are part of the greater Whole.
And you can offer yourself and what you bring by asking for help from your unconscious, the Universe, God, Spirit, whatever you want to call it. What content shall I share that will help bring something positive and beneficial into the world? How will I share it so that people can hear it?
“I am because of you” – Ubuntu. We are all connected. You can make a difference when you bring your whole self to what you do.
